Best advice I can offer is travel light, and one bag travel is the way to go for less stress on the mind and body. For someone with a moderate amount of anxiety, like myself, the less you have to keep track of the calmer and more enjoyable your travels will be.
We have all seen them, and maybe you have been one of them. You know the ones, putting coins in a trolley quarter slot so they can get all of the luggage out to the taxi line. I have one word for this, ridiculous! No one has time for that! You are traveling to see the world, not build muscle mass getting from place to place.
You might be scared to be without all your extra knickknacks, but trust me when I tell you that less is so much more when it comes to packing. Streamline and go light. You can thank me later!
It is not uncommon for me to repack my bag three times before I leave. I’ll pack and then I wait twenty-four hours to unpack and see what I can comfortably pull from my travel bag. Then I wait for another twenty-four to forty-eight hours and repeat. I am committed to carrying one European size carry-on. I say “European size” because the regulations are different in Europe than here in the states. I learned that one the hard way! Always check with the airlines to know what the exact size and weight requirements you will have to meet for carry-on as airlines will vary.
I recommend really thinking about what you need. Even though I only pack one carry-on, I always come home and think “I didn't need to take that” for more than a few items.
So trust me when I tell you, you don't need half the things you think you do. Leave the heavy, awkward, back-breaking ball and chain known as luggage at home.
